Term Definition
slope the steepness of a line
Constant of Proportionality the constant value of the ratio of two proportional quantities x and y
Direct Variation mathematical relationship between two variables that can be expressed by an equation in which one variable is equal to a constant times the other
X- intercept the x-coordinate of a point where a line, curve, or surface intersects the x-axis
Y- intercept the y-coordinate of a point where a line, curve, or surface intersects the y-axis
Linear equation an equation between two variables that gives a straight line when plotted on a graph
Unit rate the ratio of two measurements in which the second term is 1
Rate of change The ratio of the change in the output value and change in the input value of a function is called as Rate of Change
Slope-intercept form an algebraic equation in which each term is either a constant or the product of a constant and a single variable
Proportional relationship a relationship between inputs to outputs in which the ratio of inputs and outputs is always the same
Point-slope the equation of a straight line in the form y ? y1 = m(x ? x1) where m is the slope of the line and (x1, y1) are the coordinates of a given point on the line
Intersecting lines Lines that have one and only one point in common are known as intersecting lines
